Hours: Full time, exempt, 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday – Friday; some flexible hours
The Mass Rural Water Association (MassRWA) is a nonprofit statewide membership organization. We are dedicated to supporting water and wastewater utilities through onsite technical support, training, and planning assistance. The Mass Rural Water Association was incorporated in 2005 and is a member of the National Rural Water Association.
Job Description:
Are you interested in helping to protect the nation’s multi-billion dollar investment in rural and small municipal drinking water and wastewater systems?
As a Wastewater Specialist with Mass Rural Water Association, you will play a pivotal role in delivering technical assistance and training to personnel within small wastewater systems throughout Massachusetts. Your responsibilities will include providing essential financial, managerial, and technical support to these communities. Your primary goal will be to empower utilities to efficiently provide safe, treated wastewater while adhering to state and federal regulations.

Specific Responsibilities:
- Travel throughout Massachusetts offering direct onsite assistance to small wastewater systems, supplemented by responsive phone and email support.
- Timely completion of all required reports and documentation.
- Participate in ongoing technical training programs.
- Contribute to organizational marketing efforts through written materials.
- Collaborate with management team to set and achieve association goals.
- Provide emergency response support to wastewater systems during disasters.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations governing wastewater systems.
- Foster professional relationships and communication with colleagues, regulators, and the public.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills, working autonomously or as part of a team.
- Undertake additional tasks assigned by the management team to advance association objectives.
Skills:
- Technical experience in wastewater treatment and collection systems preferred. We are willing to train a highly motivated individual ready to learn regulatory compliance issues and public wastewater system operations and maintenance.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, in print, and electronically in a professional manner.
- Capable of independent decision-making and advisory roles.
- Willingness to obtain state professional license(s); Massachusetts wastewater Treatment and/or Collection System Operator Certification
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands and Environment:
- Extensive travel throughout Massachusetts.
- Field Position- exposure to outdoor elements throughout all four seasons.
- Establishment of field office in home.
- Attendance of a minimum of two multi-day events annually that require overnight stays and travel to other states.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse team.
