
This 6-hour workshop is intended to serve as an overview covering all aspects of pipe locating, DigSafe Rules & Regulations, and the basics of leak detection, improving a system’s water efficiency. Below are the agendas for each section:
PIPE & CABLE LOCATING
- How pipe locators work
- How to troubleshoot difficult locates
- The reasons for multiple frequencies and when to use which
- How to handle and avoid bleed off and distorted signals
- Tools for plastic pipe locating
- How GPR works and when it is/when it is not a viable tool
DIGSAFE RULES & REGULATIONS

- Damage prevention laws and rules for both facility operators and excavators
- Pre-marking techniques for proposed excavation sites and DigSafe notification procedures
- Methods for working safely around underground utilities
- Safety protocol if an underground facility is damaged
- Enforcement and regulation process by at the appropriate state agencies
- Potential hazards of utility damage & lessons learned
LEAK DETECTION
- Basics of water leak detection
- How to use sound to locate leaks in pipes
- Alternatives to acoustic leak detection
Following the morning lecture session and the lunch break (lunch not provided), we will go outside for an in-the-field demonstration and troubleshooting session. Feel free to bring your own devices.
Class will be held In-Person. To allow for adequate training time for each participant, we will be watching registrations closely and begin a Wait List, if needed. Registration is on a first come first served basis.

Mr. Denslow has been with Eastcom Associates for over 12 years and is responsible for the training and locator sales throughout New England. Eric has taught many classes for multiple Rural Water Associations, Water Works Associations, and also to the Gas Industry. Prior to joining Eastcom Associates, Eric was a Water Circuit Rider with the New Jersey Water Association for 2 years, and also spent 4 years at the Ocean Twp MUA in Ocean County, NJ.

Individuals registered for one of our training classes, seminars, and/or conferences will be charged the class fee if we have not received notice of cancellation at least 48 hours prior to the beginning of class. Anyone contacting MassRWA to cancel enrollment in a training session will receive a cancellation number.
