This 8-hour interactive, instructor-led training helps employees, supervisors, and safety professionals recognize, evaluate, and control hazards commonly found in General Industrial settings. This can include warehouse and distribution operations. This course focuses on general industry OSHA standards.
Through real-world examples, case studies, discussions, and hands-on activities, participants will learn practical strategies they can immediately apply in the workplace to help prevent injuries and reduce risk. The course is designed for employees, small employers, staffing agencies, temporary workers, frontline supervisors, and safety personnel and aligns with OSHA’s National Emphasis Program (NEP) on Warehousing and Distribution Center Operations.
Topics include OSHA standards and hazard recognition, the Hierarchy of Controls, powered industrial truck (forklift) safety, safety inspections and checklists, facility and warehouse safety, material handling and storage systems, loading docks and walking-working surfaces, ergonomics and back injury prevention, electrical safety, and Hazard Communication (HazCom) and chemical safety.
**NOTE** This course is open to those outside of water and wastewater operators, however a minimum of 3 different small water systems must be enrolled, with a minimum of 10 persons overall needed to hold this class. The class maximum is 30 persons, and waitlist will be created at that point. Please sign-up ASAP, and please invite other folks outside water who might be interested!
Class will be held in-person. To allow for adequate training time for each participant, we will be watching registrations closely and begin a Wait List, if needed. Registration is on a first come first served basis.

Instructor(s) Bio: Tracy Hazel, widely recognized as the “517 Safety Guru,” is an award-winning safety professional, consultant, and CEO based in Grand Ledge, Michigan. She is the sole owner of Advanced Training and Consulting, LLC (established in 2007) and the 517 Training Center. Tracy and her team’s expertise is within occupational health and safety. Tracy is a national speaker and OSHA Outreach (Construction and General Industry) trainer. Core services that she provides are safety education, OSHA compliance audits and consulting, customized workplace safety strategies, hazmat and confined space training, and First Aid/CPR instruction. She actively serves as a Senior Board Member with the Michigan Safety Conference and Chair of the Security Division. Tracy is active with several nonprofit committees, including the National Association of Career Women (NACW), serving as its 2023–2024 President and being named the 2025 NACW National Career Woman of the Year.
Cancellation Policy:
Individuals registered for one of our training classes, seminars, and/or conferences will be charged the class fee if we have not received notice of cancellation at least 48 hours prior to the beginning of class. Anyone contacting MassRWA to cancel enrollment in a training session will receive a cancellation number. In the event of an emergency, which would prevent attendance, please contact MassRWA as soon as possible with the details.
